..THE VELVETS
Originally, the Velvets are characters by Neil Gaiman,
writer and friend of Tori. He wrote about the Velvets in his book Neverwhere. They inhabit "the Other London" Tori mentiones them in Hotel, featured on From The Choirgirl Hotel where are the velvets where are the velvets where are the velvets when you're coming down you were wild where are you now you were wild where are you now king solomon's mines exit 75 i'm still alive i'm still alive i'm still alive ../QUOTES It's a world inhabited by monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet. The Velvets are vampire-like characters from Gaiman's novel "Neverwhere" Other Inhabitants of the Underside - Rat Speakers, Velvets, Black Friars. Almost all are dangerous in one way or another. In the world of London Below, Lamia slinks through the darkness of shadows with the other Velvets, searching for warmth...and finding it in other souls. She was dressed in a variety of clothes thrown over each other: odd clothes, dirty velvets, muddy laces, rips and holes through which other layers and styles could be seen She looked, Richard thought, as if she'd done a midnight raid on the History of Fashion section of the Victoria and Albert Museum . . . ("she" is Door, one of the Velvets) *Hotel* she makes a reference to Gaiman's TV miniseries/novel "Neverwhere" ("... hangin' out with the Velvets..."). I included this quote because I thought it was funny how they thought Tori sings "hangin' out with the Velvets". (it's either "Hanging out with the Dream King" or "Where are the Velvets") Velvets: absorb the heat of victims by kissing them. Reduces the Victim's Strength by 1D for every 1D gained. At 0D, the victim will collapse and is considered Mortally Wounded. The victim may regain his Strength by warming himself up and resting for one half hour per level drained. the Velvets are a fun bunch of life-draining femmes fatales who inhabit London Below. "where are the velvets" is specifically a reference to the vampiric characters called the velvets. • BACK |
