..PIANOS
Tori plays a wide range of various pianos and keyboard. In this section you can find descriptions and pictures of all of them.
When she was 2,5 years old she crawled onto the pianostool and knew that this big, black, beautiful being was her friend. "This being I can
tell my secrets to, and it totally agrees with me." As a minister's daughter she was not able to just say everything that sprang to
mind, and through the piano she had found a way of expressing herself, she had found a friend who she could confide in.
When she was five, she was admitted to the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She was the youngest student ever to be admitted. Alas, she got kicked out.
'You walk these hallways and you think: bloody hell, these people are ten times better than I am. Do you know how many Scooby Doo episodes
I'm gonna miss if I learn this piece?'. She wanted to play by heart. And not from sheetmusic. Everyone played the same piece, and they
played it well. And in that there was no challenge for the young Tori.
..The Bösendorfer
The Bösendorfer is Tori greatest love. She owns three big ones, which are located at Cornwall, Florida, and the third one she uses for touring.
She got her third right before the American Doll Posse tour. Established in 1828 and located in Vienna, Austria, Bösendorfer is the oldest
manufacturer of pianos that still produces the finest instruments today, handcrafted that is. This company not only makes grand pianos,
but among others also upright pianos and harpsichords.
Tori takes her Bösey, the way she lovingly calls it, everywhere. Even for one-song performances for television for instance, she brings the
Bösey. To express her love for this instrument, she called the solo section during the American Doll Posse tour: T & Bö. She has
done numerous improvisations about 'her' (all pianos are female, according to Tori) and claims that she is her best friend.
Tori plays the Model 290 imperial, which has 97 keys, is
9'6" long and 5'9" wide. She weighs 1.255 lb. It was first built around 1900.

..The Upright
Tori does not play the upright as often anymore. She used to have on back in her apartment in London.

..The Upright in Bells For Her
Tori played a really old upright piano on Bells For Her on Under The Pink.
"All songs were recorded on the Bösendorfer exept "Bells for Her" which was recorded on an old upright that Phil and Eric demolished or made better I'm not sure."
(Under The Pink liner notes. See a video of Tori playing this here.

..The Harpsichord
Tori started playing the harpsichord around 1995/1996, it was first featured on her album Boys For Pele on
songs like Caught A Lite Sneeze and In The Springtime Of His Voodoo. She brought it with her during the 1996 Dew Drop Inn tour,
and also played her The Cure's cover of Lovesong on it during that tour. Some songs that originally were not recorded with the 'Harpsi',
were played live on it, like Bells For Her. She owns two harpsichords, but she doesn't tour with the harpsichord anymore because
it is very delicate. About this she said: 'Have you ever been out with somebody that's like "yknow I can't have my sauce on my fish
and I can't have ice in my drink and I can't sit next to this person and I can't.." OH MY GOD! Well that's sort of what a Harpsichord is like.'
But she also said she might bring it again sometime, that she would bribe her crew.

..The Fender Rhodes
The Fender Rhodes is an electric piano that Tori toured with during the On Scarlet's Walk tour. She plays this one on album songs Crazy
(Scarlet's Walk) and Rattlesnakes (Strange Little Girls).

..The Würlitzer
The 'Wurly' Tori owns was played at Woodstock. She's had a paintjob and is now red with stars on it. Amongst other songs you can hear her
in Scarlet's Walk's Pancake. She brought this on the Scarlet's Walk tour. 'Sometimes when you're in Cornwall and it's
raining raining raining raining raining, you get new friends. And this is one of my new little friends. She's older than a lot of you.
Say hi, she doesn't bite!' (Dallas 2001)

..The B3 Hammond
The BC Hammond is an organ. Tori brought her on the Original Sinsuality tour.
She plays songs like The Beekeeper and Sweet The Sting on this instrument. Unlike all the others,
the B3 is male. 'Yeah, my husband bought me a B3 Hammond organ for
Christmas last year and I fell
completely in love with it. It has a very different sound to other organs and I
liked the idea of using it alongside the Bosendorfer piano because I wanted the
music to represent the pollination that goes on in the garden. To me, the
Hammond is a very funky, masculine instrument whilst the piano is more emotive
and feminine. On The Beekeeper, they come together to form a perfect union.'

..The Kürzweil
This synthesizer was used on Spark (From The Choirgirl Hotel). She used this alot to write songs on before going into
the studio. 'I have a Kurzweil. The good thing is they maxed me out at Kurzweil with sounds,
and then my friend came in and gave me a bunch of sounds - Mellotron sounds and
stuff, 'tron viola, 'tron flute, 'tronny stuff like that. I started messing with
them and in some cases writing things around some of them, like in "Hotel." So
the keyboard was very present while I was writing. I wrote most everything
before I walked into the studio'.

..The Clavichord
The Clavichord is a European stringed keyboard instrument known from the late Medieval, through the Renaissance,
Baroque and Classical eras. Tori plays this one on Little Amsterdam (Boys For Pele).

..The Mellotron
The Mellotron was featured on American Doll Posse's Dragon. It produces a flute-like sound. Tori has not taken this
instrument on tour, she replaced it with the Yamaha Keyboard.
