The debut album from Shauna Burns, “Every Thought,” showcases her inspired
songwriting and intense, complex sound. Sometimes soothing, sometimes haunting,
her songs stir emotions and draw images clearly in the listener’s mind.
The singer was born in Miami, where her mother’s love for the piano
permeated her soul before she headed west for college and found consistent
success on the coffee house circuit in Salt Lake City. Influenced heavily by the
desert and mountain landscape around Nevada and Utah, her music creates a mood
easily accessible to the listener.
While frequent comparisons to artists
like Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, and Sarah McLachlan are not off base, it’s clear
that she transcends typical boundaries of pop music. Her music is easy to
connect with, but is not crafted generically or according to traditionally
